Chartered accountants are well respected in the financial services industry and undertake a lot of training to acquire the knowledge and expertise needed in their industry. In this article I am going to outline the route one can undertake to becoming a chartered accountant. (Note: This article is aimed at those who want to become a chartered accountant after first attaining an undergraduate degree)
Most people will be surprised to know that you don't actually need a degree to become a chartered accountant. In fact some people study for and pass the A.A.T (Association of Accounting Technicians) straight after high school and then go on to become a chartered accountant. Some large accountancy firms actually offer programs to induce high school students to join their firms and offer schemes which focus them on becoming chartered accountants. However most chartered accountants have an undergraduate degree, and this has its obvious advantages.
One obvious advantage is that for the rest of your career you have a degree listed on your CV. This obviously gives you an advantage over someone without a degree when it comes to things like finding employment or job progression. Sometimes that little edge can make the difference between being hired or promoted. So if you have a degree you are in a better position, and I think this is why most chartered accountants have degrees.
