One man is a retired CIA logistics officer who served in Vietnam from 1970-1972; the other a decorated colonel who served in Operation Desert Storm. Their goal is to call to task those who employed what they feel were incompetent tactics in the village of Wanat, COP Keating and the battle of Ganjgal.

The CIA Officer

John Petro of Falls Church, VA., was not pleased at the time with United States Involvment in Vietnam's civil war. He has little use for the medals and commendations he received for his service there. When his grandson, Spc. Stephan Mace, was killed at Combat Outpost (COP) Keating Oct. 3, 2009, a war Petro already opposed became a war he was determined to expose.

“I want to make as many people as I can very uncomfortable-to-accountable for negligence, incompetence and wanton disregard for the lives of those soldiers killed at Keating. … The investigations were a whitewash to deflect charges of incompetence from the senior commanders including (Gen. Stanley A.) McChrystal. I also want to make a case for an immediate withdrawal,” Petro wrote in an e-mail.
